EU Ambassador to Japan Hans Dietmar Schweisgut attends FOODEX JAPAN opening ceremony

Hans Dietmar Schweisgut, ambassador of the European Union to Japan, took part in the FOODEX JAPAN 2014 opening ceremony at Makuhari Messe on 4 March. The EU has for the first time set up a pavilion at this international exhibition for food and beverages, to showcase European products bearing its four quality logos: Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), Traditional Specialty Guaranteed (TSG) and the Organic Farming Logo. The PDO logo covers agricultural products and foodstuffs which are produced, processed and prepared in a given geographical area using recognised know-how.

The PGI logo covers agricultural products and foodstuffs closely linked to the geographical area, and where at least one of the stages of production, processing or preparation takes place in the area. The TSG logo highlights traditional character, either in the composition or means of production. The Organic Farming Logo indicates that the product is in full conformity with EU conditions and regulations for the organic farming sector.
