Statement by the Spokesperson of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the recent events in Thailand

The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:

"The High Representative is following the recent events in Thailand with concern. After her visit to Thailand on 13 November 2013, the High Representative called upon all parties to abide by democratic principles, avoid escalation and resolve their differences through peaceful means.

The High Representative calls on all involved to seize the crucial opportunity of the 2 February elections to move forward peacefully within Thailand's democratic and constitutional framework."
