Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, will attend the State Memorial Service in Johannesburg for Nelson Mandela next week representing the European Union.Ahead of the State Memorial Service President Van Rompuy remarks:

"Nelson Mandela has left us but will stay in the history of mankind forever. There will be a South Africa before and after Mandela, who dedicated his life to equality, democracy, human rights, tolerance and reconciliation. ow the people of South Africa and the world have to reconcile with a life without Nelson Mandela. On behalf of the European Union, I will pay our last respects to this great statesman and person in Johannesburg."
