Commissioner De Gucht meets with Toshimitsu Motegi, Japanese Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry

EU News 413/2013

25 September 2013

As the EU and Japan have launched negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement in April this year, Commissioner De Gucht discussed on 24 September the on-going trade talks ahead of the upcoming EU-Japan Summit with the Japanese Minister of Trade, Mr Toshimitsu Motegi.

Japan is the EU’s second biggest trading partner in Asia, after China. A Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Japan could increase the EU’s GDP by 0.6% and help to create up to 400,000 additional jobs in the EU. The third round of negotiations will take place in Brussels on 21-25 October 2013.
