Statement by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on the outcome of the presidential election in Mali

EU News 365/2013

Brussels, 12 August 2013
A 417/13

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission issued the following statement today:

"Mali has just taken a very important step in the process of restoring constitutional order.

The European Union's observation mission has established that the presidential election took place in a credible and transparent manner.

I call on all the candidates and all the parties involved to accept the verdict of the ballot box and to support the future Government in its endeavours to build a lasting peace and restore national unity.

The European Union, Mali's key partner, will continue to stand by all Malians and their legitimate
authorities in support of those endeavours."
