EU Delegation steps up its cybersphere presence with new smartphone application and Website design

The Delegation of the European Union to Japan will make further use of digital tools to reach out to a wider audience, with the launch on 9 May of a new application for iPhones, iPads and Android smartphones that aims to provide an entertaining way to learn about the EU in Japanese. The Delegation has also revamped the look of its official Website, making it fully social-media capable (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc) and enabling visitors an easier way to navigate the information available.

The new 'EU IN JAPAN APP' is an official application developed by the EU Delegation to Japan in Japanese that offers a wealth of information about the EU and its institutions including the euro single currency and tourism and weather facts in the EU Member States. A built-in quiz allows testing the EU savviness of the app user. It can be downloaded from Apple's App Store or Google Play by searching 'EU in Japan' or「EUを知ろう」. Its 9 May launch has been timed to coincide with Europe Day, the day when the EU marks the speech given by then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950 calling for a united Europe.

Meanwhile, the Delegation's official Website has also been redesigned to give visitors a sleeker, more modern portal to the wealth of information provided. The Website now provides easier access to the content of our monthly digital magazine, EUMAG, whose articles highlight key EU policy issues with relevance to Japan.

These new endeavours underscore the Delegation's desire to fully utilise the possibilities offered by new technologies to fulfil its mission of bringing the EU closer to the general Japanese public.
