Over 48,000 Japanese high school students to experience the EU

The seventh year of the highly successful 'The EU Comes to Your School' project will see a total of 66 European Union diplomats, including eight ambassadors, visit 92 high schools around the country on 13 and 14 May to give presentations on the EU and their respective countries.

More than 48,000 students in 34 prefectures from Hokkaido to Okinawa will be taking part in this year's event, which was first launched in 2007 to mark the 50^th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which laid the legal backbone of what is now the EU.

The project, organised by the Delegation of the EU to Japan with the cooperation of the embassies of the EU Member States in Japan, underscores the importance the EU places on people-to-people exchanges, particularly interaction with the youth of today, who will be the opinion-makers of tomorrow, as a way of sowing the seeds for deeper bilateral relations.
