EU sanctions against the Syrian regime extended

The Council today extended all EU sanctions against the Syrian regime for a further three months. At the same time, it amended the arms embargo so as to allow for the provision of non-lethal equipment and technical assistance for the protection of civilians.

Today's decision gives legal effect to an agreement reached at the Foreign Affairs Council of 18 February.
