Chief Operating Officer of the EU's diplomatic service to visit Japan

David O'Sullivan, chief operating officer of the European External Action Service, the diplomatic arm of the European Union, will be in Tokyo from 12 to 14 February. He will be the most senior EEAS official to visit the country since the Council of the EU decided in November to open negotiations toward a free trade agreement and political framework agreement between the EU and Japan.

During his stay in Tokyo, he will meet with key political and government officials to exchange views on bilateral relations, including the groundwork for these negotiations, as well as regional affairs. He will also give a lecture on the theme 'Priorities for EU Diplomacy in East Asia' at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) on 12 February, 2013.
