EU and Japan broaden research cooperation with launch of new co-funded project

The European Union (EU) and Japan will see bilateral cooperation in the area of research broadened with the launch on 1 January, 2017 of the co-funded research cooperation project InRel-Npower, which will focus on advanced materials for power electronics. Improvement in wide-band gap material properties are expected to lead to a substantial improvement in device performance, reduced in-service degradation and lower maintenance needs and costs. The research consortium will involve nine European and two Japanese partners.

This project, which comes under the EU's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, is co-funded together with the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in the context of a scheme developed by JST to facilitate participation of Japanese researchers in Horizon 2020.
